20 Million Skill Points

Sorry for being silent, I’m in the process of moving and the transition will take awhile.

However, Freddy passed the 20 Million SP mark a day or so ago. I’d like to fill out this post in a similar fashion to my 10 Million SP post from awhile back. We’ll see if I can find the time.

There and Back Again: 1st EVE Anniversary

So with little fanfare my 1st Anniversary in EVE came and went. Who would have thought that on June 2nd Freddy Facepalm would be 1 year old?

I’ve sat back and tried to reflect on where I’ve been and how far I’ve come…but it turns out I’ve been rather busy of late. Nonetheless I did at least want to post a few update for posterity.

As per one of my very first posts, here is my updated display of the places I’ve visited throughout the course of a year.

A Year of Travels

Next up, I’ve managed to accrue 16,660,000 skillpoints in a year. I’ve currently got a set of +4 implants and am training my final Planetary Interaction skill (Command Center Upgrades 4). Here is my distribution.

1 Year's Skills

And finally my assets total to just over 1 Billion ISK, that is a number far greater than anything I could have imagined, mainly in thanks to the past week.

I decided to move back to my old stomping grounds around Caldari Space. Being away from my high standings and familiar territory were simply too great to remain in Minmitar space. After spending roughly 2 weeks in the South I had little to show for my efforts. So I packed up ship and moved home. I hadn’t been back for more than a day when I found 3 level 4 Deadspace Complexes, the first of which yielded a Medium Faction Shield Booster which netted me nearly 400M ISK! I about fell out of my chair! That alone paid for my dear Orca which I had been scrounging for months to purchase. I then found several nice Faction Hardeners worth another 100+M ISK.

Since I finally had some room in the bank I decided it was time to embark upon my final great Adventure which I had hoped for when I first began my days in New Eden. It’s almost ironic that almost exactly a year after setting foot in EVE I’ve decided to setup my own POS in a Wormwhole as that was the main draw for me when I first began…and yet I never thought I would make it this far.

As it turns out our Alliance has made a new push into Wormspace in search of more planets for the upcoming PI and a new system was recently discovered. They welcomed the addition of more members to their newly christened domain and I thankfully accepted.

I spent a couple days pondering over proper POS setups and configurations. Though I had a good sum of money in the bank, I was only able to purchase a Medium Tower, but I believe this will be a good start for me. The final tally for the tower, all modules and enough fuel for a month was just shy of half a billion ISK. I still have a small amount savings left, but it did sting to watch my wallet deplete so quickly.

As fate would have it, our newly settled system was only 2 jumps from my staging location. Thankfully our Alliance Leader and another Senior member happened to be on and willing to help stage my entrance. I  was able to move the lot of my supplies in 2 Orca filled jumps. They were also kind enough to let me for some of my supplies at their main operative POS while I go through the long process of anchoring my tower. I’ve decided to hold off the final stage of anchoring until tomorrow as it was getting late when all was finally said and done.

A New Adventure Awaits

So here I am, a year later and still so many new adventures to await! Whatever will year 2 bring? There’s only one way to find out…Number 1, Engage!

10 Million Skill Points

Well Freddy Facepalm hit the 10 Million Skill Point mark over the weekend working on some Core skills. It’s seems he’s become a Jack-of-all-trades, not being great at any single one area, but dabbling in everything. He currently knows 177 skills, 17 of which are level 5. Here’s the quintessential skills pie-chart:

Freddy Facepalm's Skills

It’s taken Freddy almost 9 months to accomplish this milestone, but here he is nonetheless. Perhaps I should invest in some +4 implants and finish off some Learning skills to speed things up. Regardless, it’s been a fun trip so far…now if I could only find a solid way to utilize all these skills.

New Eden Community College

I finally decided to send Freddy back to school. The easy part of that in EVE is you simply need to buy your skillbooks and inject them into your neural network…and then train for days to raise their skill level, but the setup is still pretty easy.

Recently I’ve noticed quite a few green checkboxes in my Character Pane Skill List. I’ve always meant to pick up a few skillbooks at a time whenever I’m in or near Jita, but I always tend to forget. So finally the other day I decided I’d bite the bullet and get it done with. So I turned on the trusty auto-pilot after setting a course to an Academic Station in a System near Jita. When I finally got there I noticed quite a few scammers trying to sell the skillbooks at huge prices. Skillbooks in general are sold by the NPC station itself for a set amount of ISK, so I was careful enough not to fall for any tricks.

I set some guidelines first, such as I would not buy any skills over half a million ISK, even with this stipulation there were quite a few skillbooks I could purchase. When all was said and done I had spent roughly 5 million ISK and purchased over 20 skills. I was amazed at the price of some Science skills, I have probably 10 or more skills that I can learn, but each book costs near 30 million ISK. Perhaps someone can explain that one to me!

After I had injected all of my new skills I trained each one to level 1, just so that I would have basic competency in all the new areas. Granted there may be a few that I hardly ever use (like all the rigging skills?) but now I think I have a much more well-rounded skill exposure. Plus I can fit most things that I previously could not, so I felt it was well worth the trip. Freddy just past 6.9 million Skill Points, so I’m making steady progress.

Aside from the rampant skill training I also bought myself a new toy. I purchased a Heron Frigate for scanning. As I mentioned earlier I really enjoyed scanning, but hadn’t a need to really try it out recently. So, I bought and fully fit a Heron just for that purpose because it has a number of modifiers for increasing scan strength. I’m a week or so away from flying it’s Tech II counterpart, the Buzzard, but for now my Trusty ‘Explorer I’ is doing just fine.

I’ve actually been scanning my home system quite a bit recently. I’ve found all kinds of signature sites, such as hacking sites, salvage sites, Pirate rooms, etc.. One site in particular had me go through 3 or 4 heavily guarded Gurista rooms, and when I was finally through cleansing space of their infestation I received a popup saying I had intercepted their last transmission which was sent to another system. What the heck does that mean? I couldn’t find anything in my log or Journal that would have sent me to another system to track the message, so it must have just been for flavor. Perhaps someone knows what this was about and can fill me in.

I’ve also just finished raising a number of rare ore processing skills to level III, which allows me to fit their corresponding Tech I mining crystals to my Hulk fitted Modulated Strip Miner II’s. I will focus on getting the remaining ore processing skills once I’ve decided to finish up the 2 week training of Refining Efficiency V & Metallurgy IV. But for now I feel my mining skills are up to par for what I can reasonably encounter.

Finally I decided to queue up Electronic Upgrades V. I’ve wanted to do this skill for quite awhile and it was a toss up between that and Survey V. The former takes 8 days to train and the latter 4. However there are quite a few skills that rely on EU V, such as Hacking, Covert-ops, etc., whereas only one that relies on Survey V, Archaeology. I would like to get Hacking and Archaeology and then fit their corresponding Codebreaker and Analyzer modules to my new Heron. I’ve already found a few sites where I could have used both those skills. Ah well, I’ll get there in a couple weeks.

In the mean time I’m going to stick to scanning as that is quite enjoyable. I’m also still mission running & mining. I have quite a bit of work since I’ve spent around 150 million ISK in the last two weeks and my bank account is now hovering near zero. I’m still amazed I was able to purchase so much. Let the good times roll I guess, and kids…stay in school!

Skillin' Up

There isn’t much going on in the world of EVE for me at the moment,  being a new, solo, non-corporation member. This is probably a good thing considering the amount of time it usually takes me to get a solid grasp of things. Regardless I still feel the urge to ramble on, so here we go again.

I was intrigued by Kirith’s post about his current character’s skill distribution. I found it very interesting to see how 40 – 50 million skill points are typically spread out for a veteran player. In comparison, I figured I’d post my own skill chart. Freddy only has roughly 2.8 million SP, and most of the allocation has been compulsive (i.e. – only 2 hours for skill X? Sounds good!) but perhaps it’s still a good indicator of where a true EVE ‘newbie’ will find themselves after around 8 weeks in New Eden.

2.8 Million Skill Points

2.8 Million Skill Points

This reminds me slightly of the “Places I’ve Been” meme that was going around a few weeks ago, though not quite as compelling.

As per last night, I decided to take everyone’s kind advice and process my stockpiled ore. I made nearly 5 million ISK, which was a wonderful infusion. But then I went and spent around 60% of it on mining upgrades, better mining lasers, cargo expanders and a brand new hauler! The Caldari Badger II, dubbed: “Peterbuilt I”. Fitted with 3 Cargo Expander I’s and it nearly doubles the space of my original Badger I. 9980 m3 of space, not cavernous by any means, but for me it’s a great improvement. Here she is:

I can’t wait until tonight when I can actually start trying her out!
